Dozens of family and friends posted condolences on social media. Sadly, the 76-year-old restaurateur died yesterday. In an interview with NBC Miami this past January, Pernetti seemed to have taken a turn for the higher and his family was trying ahead to his homecoming. Complications from the virus led to an extended hospitalization whereas Pernetti fought off infections and lung harm. Pernetti was known to often say that, owning Caffe Abbracci is the perfect job in the world for me. Over the last 33 years, the restaurant has become a staple of Coral Gables dining and a favorite of the who’s who in the City Beautiful. In December 2020, Pernetti contracted COVID. Pernetti founded Caffee Abbracci in Coral Gables in 1989. For over 30 years, he spent practically daily at the restaurant, greeting customers like family - even famous ones like Al Pacino and Emilio and Gloria Estefan. When his travels landed him in Miami, he borrowed money from a good friend and planted roots in the Magic City. As a younger grownup, he labored at several resorts all over the world. Pernetti grew up in the Lombardy area of Italy and started his lifelong culinary profession on the tender age of 13 when he labored as a barista in his hometown of Lake Garda. Nino was friendly and professional in his attitude. Please, maintain his daughters, Tatiana and Katerina, and his ex-wife, Marlen, in your prayers. Abbracci Caffe is a renowned destination for many celebrities, and the Abbracci Caffe team enjoys serving everyone as an important customers and service them flawlessly. He supplied a sincere smile and a warm hug, to all who dined right here, over the previous three-plus many years. He was a real chief, a mentor and, most of all, a pal, to all who worked right here.
It is with great unhappiness that we share that Caffe Abbracci’s proprietor and founder, Nino Pernetti, has handed away, after a 17-month battle with problems from COVID-19. The restaurant introduced Wednesday night on Facebook that Pernetti has died.
The restaurateur by no means recovered from the aftereffects. Pernetti relished every day at his restaurant until he contracted COVID in 2020.
